Just what is Meshtastic?
Meshtastic is an Open Source “Off Grid” secure text communication program that uses your cell phone and LoRa Radios. So, for example if you are hiking, camping or biking in areas without Cell Coverage you will be able to keep in touch with your group and know their location. Also great for emergency communications in the event of a natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado or even a cyber attack.
Your phone connects to this unit via Standard Bluetooth or Bluetooth Low Energy(or the OTG cable) which actually has a great range of up to 300 FT. This unit connects to other radios in the group or “MESH” via LoRa 915MHz. All of the messages in the group are relayed from Radio to Radio so the actual range can be many miles depending on obstructions.
"On Grid" and want to be "Off Grid" and more secure? Simple -Turn off your Cellular Service and your WiFi - even your Bluetooth if you use the OTG cable.
